In late 2021 just after last last Covid-19 Lockdown, a meeting in what was then Stow Brae Kirk with Glenburn Parish Church brought to light the survival of the West Relief Church/ Castlehead burial records. Castlehead joined in Union with the then New Laigh Kirk in 1985 to form Stow Brae Kirk and the Castlehead records were moved to the church buildings on Causeyside Street. The records are now on their way to the National Records of Scotland (NRS) via the Church of Scotland. The five volumes covering 1829 to 1930 have been digitised and we hold one copy of each.
The records are not currently available to view via the NRS and until they are we hold the only complete set that be searched for ancestors. The first volume covering the period up to 1929 has been lost for many years.
If you would like us to search for ancestors that you think were buried at Castlehead, then please contact us and we can provide details of our search fee etc. Once a burial is located we can then use the lair number to find other burials in the lair.
